Battery

Can anyone recommend where I can purchase a new battery for C3. I’ve got the battery with screw in type on side not terminals ? Also it looks too small to me. Plus it’s dead !

Any auto parts store or reputable shop is a good start. I can assume it's behind the driver's seat, left hand drive? Any good name brand battery will work as long as it matches the existing terminal hook-up.

Hi Norm. It is left hand drive behind seat. That’s the issue it is not a terminal type fitting like standard UK battery. I will look on line to see if there is an adapter from side screw in type as per the USA battery that it came with. To change it to a terminal type.

Bit of a faff changing side post terminals to top post - are cables long enough? If you are able to do it you'll have a wider range of batteries job the UK. Irrespective of that side post should still be available in UK.

I'm not sure what your terminal looks like, but there should be adapters readily available. Good luck with fix.

Hi Linda

I'd go for Tayna Batteries, website here: Car Batteries - Motorcycle Batteries - Leisure Batteries - Cheap Prices!

I've ued them for the battery on the Corvette and for my ride-on mower. They deliver (even to here in France!) and I think in the Uk its almost next day! They do the "Side Post Terminal" battery that you need.

I think you'll be OK with this one: 75-60 Numax Side Terminal Car Battery (75-550) 12V 60AH
Its what I've had in our '78 for about 5 years now, still going strong. No batteries are cheap these days, but I think Tayna are reasoable, especially as you need only order and wait for the delivery! The Numax battery even has a handle, which makes fitting it in that "bloomin'" cubby Hole in back sooo much easier!(y)

For your '81, I wouldn't spend the extra on an Optima, almost all of what I've read implies they are not worth it, for "our cars" anyway!

PS! Just seen Ross's post - No! Definitely do not try and convert them, it's just not worth the hassle. More space in the "cubby Hole for a side=post, and no issues with availability. The less "cutting and shutting" you do, the better.

Converting is a 20min job, I used quick release terminals on mine.
