It never rains but it pours Message Icon

Well I just donít seem to be having much luck with my vette. It started off with the code of death on the EBCM. I finally found a replacement in the states that wasnít stupid money so hopefully that is winging its way towards me. Then I noticed a small leak from my gearbox, that allowed enough fluid to drain out to cook my 3-4 clutch pack. Now Iíve just paid to have a full gearbox rebuild, this time with uprated clutch packs, rear drum etc and Iíve had an aftermarket trans cooler fitted too. An awful lot of money for a failed 50p O ring. The worst part being that it was only re built 12 or 13k miles ago.

Then the final icing on the cake is one of the wheel bearings is shot and rumbling like a good un. I can accept this one as its wear and tear but this has cost me a small fortune n 1.5k miles of driving.

However, I canít wait to go and collect it at the weekend for a drive so maybe all will be forgiven.

Christ alive, that's a bitch. I hope you're besotted with it at the weekend!! A friend with a C4 has just had to have his car trailered in order to get a gearbox rebuild. It's an auto C4, so I don't suppose there's any comparison with your C5, but the ballpark figures for these jobs sound scary... My C5 manual clutch will need done one day and I think it might be beyond my DIY enthusiasm levels.

Makes me realise how lucky I've been with mine. 32k miles over 3.5 years and thus far, no (curative) maintenance...

Thanks for the heads up from Rock Auto, i'll take a look once I've identified which wheel is causing the problem.

The problem with the original rebuild, it was done several years ago and by the 2nd to last owner. It was also done somewhere far away from me. They are never going to guarantee work over that long, I'll just never use them. I have paid the same cost again but with a load of upgraded parts and an extra transmission cooler. Hopefully this one will last the rest of the cars life.

I fitted a cooler on my C5 very easy job to install and I think the cooler was approx. £50

I hope you get all the issues resolved quickly
