New alloy wheels

Hi guys I've just purchased some aftermarket wheels that I will mainly use during the summer and also keep the original vette wheels.
Question is do I have to buy tyre sensors for the new wheels or can I run them without sensors.
I understand I won't get the pressures on the screen but will it cause any other issues? Like ah being activated etc

I don't know which model you have, but I have a 1998 C5 and recently fitted some Antera wheels to it without sensors. I was expecting issues but have had no problems at all. The original wheels used to show pressure in all 4 and would alarm if one dropped, but with the new wheels there have been no alerts. It's as if the computer recognises that there are no sensors so doesn't alert. Great news as it saved me the cost of 4 new compatible sensors and fitting Thumbs up

I've got an 07 base c6. Hopefully that will be the same for me 🤞🏻

Re: New alloy wheels

You can run them without but it would be an MOT failure as all cars that have a TPMS system but have working TPMS

The car will just chime each time you drive the car if the TPMS are not fitted

If you do use the original TPMS from the other wheels you will need to replace the rubber grommet on the valves.

If you decide to but new TPMS remember the Euro C6 and US C6 use different frequencies

Afternoon
I was under the impression it was only a MOT fail on cars registered after 2012?

And, having said the above, drove it today and got a message to service the tyre pressure monitoring system. Bizarre as I've driven it many times with no alerts. Not an issue though, easy enough to hit reset when and if I have to. I got no chiming with the message, although I did when I had TPMS sensors and lost some pressure, or with any other alerts I've had. Again. may be different in a C6.

Spot on, I just checked the gov.uk website and it's only vehicles used on or after 1st January 2012 that have the TPMS checked.

Re: New alloy wheels

I had two generic ones fitted and programmed by "the wheel specialist",
a local tyre refurb place, when my two front ones went bad.
He just scanned the original and reprogrammed the new ones with his tool.
They were about 50+ each, cheaper than importing a set.
They did need programming to the car when we changed them as one that
was taken off was on my passenger seat and set an alarm off for zero pressure
when I drove away. It must scan for sensors and pick up whats been
programmed to it.
It is easy to do, its in the handbook how to do it.

433 Mhz, same as the remote locking.
