C3 - T Tops

Has anybody had this problem before / has a solution??

The passenger T Top shuts tight, but does not sit "square" at the rear......there is a slight gap that's at its widest point by the door....

I only noticed this after I had successfully removed and refixed the drivers T Top for the first time, but didn't look before removing the passenger one...... Doh

(Perhaps it was already like it, when I bought it.......)

As the car hasn't been out in the rain yet, I dont know if it leaks......

Any ideas??

Thank you in advance!!

Re: C3 - T Tops

There is an element of adjustment in the T-Top fitting. Some of that requires the "liner" to be removed, which may be tricky, depending on whether it been out before. It has a very strong "Velcro" type attachment which can actually pull away from the cardboard backing of the liner.

Also, the "escutcheon" on the B pillar has some adjustment. Great care is needed there - the bolts go through to a fixing plate that is not held in place. If the bolts both come out of the plate it falls off, into the bowls of the B pillar! So, just a turn or so to adjust it.

That said, some photos of the gap would be good - these cars were never great on panel gaps, so it may be how it always was! Very Happy

@ Kentvette, have finally got a pic of the T Top, forgive the background as it was taken inside the storage building. In fact that day we were out in the C3 and we had our first time in the wet.........but at least the T Top didn't leak!! Very Happy

Re: C3 - T Tops

Hi Geoff

I've just been down and had a look at ours. The driver's side T-Top panel gap at the back goes from 3.04 mm (.11 inch) near the centre, to 4.5mm (.17 inch) at the outer edge, at a point about level with the fixing pin.

The AIM says that the gap should be between .06 and .18,- but constant.

It also talks about adjusting the "lock" so that the pin goes into the rear fixing at least as far as the "score lines" around it. And, adjusting the catch to give a certain torque to release it, although I can't imagine how you'd measure that!

Alas, as I'd suspected, the adjustment needs to be done before the lining panel goes into place as the bolts are not accessible with it fitted. A bit hard to see from your photo, but if the difference is not excessive (and importantly, the T-Tops don't leak!) I'd be inclined to live with it, as removing the lining can end in tears, as the "mega-velcro" type fixings were clearly not intended to come off once in place! As I say, they can pull away from the inner card lining of the panel, and is then difficult to re-attach. Ask me how I know that! Sad

As the car is black I'm guessing it probably doesn't show as much as you probably think it does? Smile

By the way Geoff, should Ross be expecting your NCM story?? Very Happy Very Happy
