Problem solved

At last I hope to have got to the bottom of the running issues I've had since I first got my vette on the road, carburation has always been less than perfect and after trying various tacks including a complete rebuild I finally bit the bullet and went for a new carb all the way from the good old US of A in the form of a Holley Brawler 670 cfm vacuum secondary electric choke like this https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/bra...
Fitted it today and started up and joy of joys at last she idles, think I need to tinker with the fast idle as it shot up to 4000 revs when it first fired up but a quick blip of the throttle brought it down to a more acceptable level!
The problem with the original carb, a 600cfm Holley, was that the Performer manifold although drilled for both square bore and spread bore carbs the base of the carb didn't match the mounting flange of the manifold which resulted in an air leak where the PCV connection is.
It was only when I removed the carb the gap in the marking of the gasket gave away the problem, an adaptor plate would have been an option but under bonnet clearance is tight anyway so probably wouldn't have fitted in.
If we get a dry day I'm looking forward to see how the new carb performs.

Re: Problem solved

That's a particularly good spec' for a vac secondary carb - the 4 corner idle screws will help set things up.
