Injectors / Fuel Filter Changed

Had a go at doing the job myself

My 1993 LT1 looked as though it still had the factory fuel filter and definitely the original injectors. The fuel filter was a bit of a job due to doing on axle stands but do able. The 8 injectors were easy to change took about 20 minutes.

What a difference - worth doing - faster, smoother and better mpg.

Did the same on my 91, massive improvement. I envy the injector position on the LT1, L98 is a bit more than 20 mins !!! Smile

Re: Injectors / Fuel Filter Changed

Injectors are simply solenoids controlling flow pintles activated by pulses of 12vdc. They can get a bit dirty affecting the spray pattern and reduced rate via dirty filters. If the solenoids are good (15ohm-ish), they just need a clean.

Mine were Rochester injectors as stock on an '87 L98. I had them refurbished by these guys for 100 and a week away. The difference was tangible, faster smoother etc..

When you install injectors, best to lubricate the O rings with silicon grease as its quite benign as regards rubber, whereas other petroleum based oils and greases can degrade the O rings especially with heat over time. My own original injector seals were very hard and inflexible, i.e. perished.
