Re: Problem using Website

I guess if it wasn't a website technical problem, Ben would have mentioned it by now? If you Google the SQL 2006 My Server has gone away error message, one of the results is this:

Re: Problem using Website

The link takes you to an explanation of the server side config of the Mysql setup. Indicating that it is a website based issue. In our use of the web. We are the clients and the website is the server which hosts the html files ie web pages and the mysql database which I would expect to be the forum.

Needs a website expert to diagnose the config

Hi again everybody.
Yes, the problem is with the website itself rather than anybody's computer or choice of browser.

Nothing you can do will fix this so please don't think you're doing anything wrong. I'm liaising with the support team for our hosting partner to find a solution. It may be simply that the website's database has just become too big. I might be able to clean things up a bit.

Please bear with me and accept my apologies for the continued inconvenience.

OK, a further update: I've cleared out the post viewing history before 1st Jan 2016, which has taken 2.5GB (yes, GB) off the database size. Hopefully this will help a bit. Please continue to update this thread (if you're able to!) if you see any more errors. Fingers crossed.

Re: Problem using Website

It's back working again for me. In addition Ben, the speed of the forum seems to have improved significantly.

OK, that's good to know - thanks. It seems really slow for me but I left the forum regenerating its search index earlier so I figured that was slowing it down. Fingers still firmly crossed...

Re: Problem using Website

Was working great last night/very quick. This morning, same problems for me. e.g:

1) Getting the SQL 2006 error message (can't get into site) when clicking on a link to CCCUK.

2) When I can get in, no problem entering User ID/Password/Sec Q answer, and logging on. If I then select Forums, that works. If I select Recent Posts or Unread Posts, that gives me the SQL 2016 error message.

(But, it is still very quick response time, for me anyway)
