yes I'm just wondering what to do with my car.

Original starter and when it's fully warmed up it's now on the verge of inoperable

Regarding the shims, bearing in mind we're talking about thousands of an inch (how thick are the shims?), maybe a rebuild would need to be re calibrated?

Anyone know for sure?

If youíre after a starter get the powermaster mini starter from real steel. I had so much Agro with cheap/rebuilt starters before I bought the power master. Itís light, small and sounds awesome

I already have bought a Powermaster OEM looking starter motor. So it should be good and powerful. Its just those damn shims..... Hmmm....

Just put it in without shims first and try it. I did that with the vette and it's perfect.

No one ever used to shim starters years ago. It's only with the advent of cheap Chinese shite stuff that shimming really becomes an issue. Some of those cheap starters are unshimmable, they're just junk.

I had no end of agro with the Studebaker (SBC), Real Steel explained the quality of parts are so bad now that everything needs to be checked. Therefore buy expensive stuff and at least you have half a chance

Yeah, that's what I was also thinking - just try it and see what happens. My Powermaster OEM look motor came with instructions on how to shim etc if needed. I like to think Powermaster is a good brand and the reviews seem good. I must confess, until the new motor turned up, I didn't realise how heavy and big it would be.

Me too with my Keith Beschi supplied starter. Thumbs up

Can't remember any labels, but it went in a treat with no odd noises when it cranks.
