C4 ZR1 1990 - Serpentine Belt Fitting Issues


All

Having severe difficulty seeing how my new belt will fit even with the incredibly awkward tensioner fully retracted (is there a way to release the spring element so i don't have to hold it against its own tension constantly?). Is this a standard problem that everyone recognises? It made me reconsider whether the belt is the right length. I would like to think it is, however now i have it routed on and just waiting to get it over the alternator, i'm not keen to take it all off again to measure it against the old one. Markings on the belts are as follows if it sheds any light on the issue.

Old one: 5060810
New one: 5PK2030 800K6

Any insights appreciated.

If you fully retrack the tensionor with I 1/2" bar the belt should fit on
Mine did ok

Where did you get the new belt from/supplier? Is it a "Dayco" manufactured one? You say the old one is part # 5060810. If you look/search on the Rockauto website, 5060810 (Dayco manufactured) is not for a Corvette. Their Dayco part number for a ZR1 is 5060805.

Presume the new one (# 5PK2030) is this Dayco one?

Not sure on the C4, but with my after market setup it can be a question of adjusting the Alternator to facilitate the Belt placement and even removal of the Alternator Pulley and then, replacing the Pulley with the Belt already on it.

These Belts can shred easily, worth keeping a spare to hand for the future.

I bought the new one from Customville American http://customville-american.co.uk/

You say #5060810 is not for a covette, but it's been fairly happy on mine up until now.

After taking a step back and starting again i actually measured both belts this time. In hindsight this is how i should have started. I didn't do this in the first instance as Customville American took my VIN number and confirmed the belt they were sending was for a C4 ZR1. Anyway, measured them both a dozen times and we can see the problem.

Old: 2050mm
New: 2020mm

Time for a longer belt.

Appreciate all the quick feedback. Hopefully this car will be useable one day.

The ZR1 has a different serp belt part number to the "regular" C4. You are concluding that Customville have sent you the wrong (too short) belt. However, looking at this, you should expect a new "correct" belt to be shorter, because the old one will/may have stretched. Whether it will have stretched by 30mm, I do not know?

Customville may be OK, but I would be going to Ian Goss or Keith at Eurovettes first, and would go for the OE AC Delco item.

Hi Charlie,

Definitely think your 2030 (2020) is too small (as you've found out), I have a spare Dayco which is 2045 bought from Ecklers I believe. On Jerrys Gaskets site they stock Gatorbacks that are 2045 (80.5"). They also recommend checking the alternator pulley just in case its not the original ZR-1 part. The 2030 might fit if you had the smaller pulley?

Belt, Serpentine for 90~95 ZR-1 LT5. One Serpentine Belt is required per engine. Belt length is 80.5" and is the correct size with the LT5 pulley 2.5" alternator pulley diameter.
We recommend that you confirm the alternator pulley size on your engine, before ordering. Replacement alternators will frequently come with a smaller diameter pulley, more commonly used on other engine applications such as the L98 (2.2" dia). If you have a small pulley, 2.2", we recommend an 80" belt to work properly with the belt tensioner
