I have sidepipes on my 68 Corvette. Bought it like that and was one of my requirements of a C3. I just wanted the looks of sidepipes as you don't get many cars with sidepipes. My little 327 mostly go to shows and just cruises around. I don't use it for big power or driving fast etc. I just like the look, sound and feel of cruising around in it. So I'm not fussed if a few BHP are lost here or there with sidepipes - the main thing is that it sounds awesome Very Happy

Re: C3 l48 side pipes and adjusting

This is what I don't get about Corvettes with sidepipes.

I had a Ford Pinto 302 once with side exhausts and the sound of half the V8 beat was very unpleasant to me as the driver, and to the passenger. From the outside though, the sound was great but I couldn't stand the noise while driving it and I don't mean the volume, it was simply a rasping half of the normal V8 beat.

Later I had a trip in a C3 with Doug Thorley sidepipes and again, this "half of a V8 beat" which I still found very unpleasant to listen to, but from outside, the sound was to die for. That's why I prefer straight pipes all the way out the back, smoother beat, easy to live with on my holiday trips, but great when I tach it up. I actually won 'best exhaust note' at a car show in Ayrshire a while beating everything including a 6.3 V12 MB Gullwing..
