C2 - Headlamp Not rotating

A query for the C2 gurus amongst us.... Confused

After standing all winter, I've discovered that the LH (near side) Headlamp unit on my 66 Convertible, will not now rotate.

When activating the (rotation) switch, I can hear the motor click, the lamp unit moves slightly, but after that it's dead

It's possible to manually rotate the headlamp (with the knob) but electrically it's doing nothing,. However the RH unit has no issues and all 4 headlights illuminate

Upon investigation, I've discovered that the torque reaction bracket, that is mounted between the motor body and the steel cross member (that is bonded into the GRP nose cone), is loose. This is because the bolt has sheared, leaving the thread embedded in the cross member

My gut feel is that the torque bracket is also an electrical connection, so that as soon as the motor moves, it twists the torque bracket away from the body and breaks the circuit, so the motor stops...

Questions

--> Has anyone heard of this before?

--> Will addressing the torque bracket fix the problem, or is it likely to be something else?

--> How can I get the broken fixing out out of the steel cross member?

--> If trying to address the broken fixing is a major issue due to access, is tack-welding it an option?

Thanks in advance for any help

The bracket is where the motor gets its neg from. Loose bracket =poor earth. Fatter self tapper or try with a lead from earth to motor housing.

Unlikely but it could be the limiter switch for that motor or of course it's died.

Something like this:

@ Jeff: Thanks for the offer of help

@ L88: Thanks Frank. As you can probably tell I suspected that it was a failed electrical connection with the bracket. My only real issue is now is how to try and drill the cross member in such an awkward position

Thanks again both. It is very much appreciated
