car stereo

HI, my import c5 has been fitted with a japanese aftermarket stereo, by that i mean all the buttons and displays are in japanese writing etc so obviously i want to change it, preferably for some kind of flip screen jobbie.
i have read elsewhere that the c5 stereo is not a straight forward swap due to the bose speakers and wiring, is this correct ?
so what is required to change the stereo or do you think i would be able to just plug and play as its already been changed ?
finally in a worse case scenario of me messing it all up would anyone recommend a good stereo installer in the west mids area who knows what they are doing with a c5.
thanks for your time and replies in advance Confused

Re: car stereo

I think a call to Custom Exotics is your first and last port of call.
They have installed one for Dave, Corv99 on here and even got the steering wheel buttons to work with it.

Re: car stereo

Yep they did, the unit was a Chinese one that got abuse and slagged off on US forum... However it's great , I know 3 people who have it now after seeing mine..
It has radio, CD , iPod input, USB ports, SD card ports, remote control! And can take apps etc... Also reversing camera and new version has DAB function .. I loaded on co pilot sat nav app for 10 .. And it integrates to system, my old windows phone connected, my new iPhone does and works fine.. Custom exotics guys custom worked my centre console to fit a bigger unit.. And got unit connected to my aftermarket steering wheel ,so functions work! Brett one of the brothers at CE is an electrics guru...

Haven't got a great picture I'm afraid... See in next post..

I'm also selling my old set up.. A Tom Tom with C5 wallpaper that connects to phone and also takes music on an SD card.. Integrates to car stereo through FM function

Re: car stereo

I know I`m late to this party! but, if you`re going for such a nice head unit then you need to replace the speakers too! It`s not too difficult, simply start from scratch!! I put in a pair of seperates in the door with 8" mids and 1" tweeters and a pair of 6" 3-ways in the back (I later replaced those with 6" x 9"`s in boxes) then a new head unit and just wired it all from scratch by-passing all the orginal wiring as it`s REDICULOUSLY over complicated!! The only thing I couldn`t do was keep the original electric aerial so got a simple windscreen aerial. The sound is fantastic and infinitely better than the Bose system.

Re: car stereo

I guess this is great option if you have that budget to spend but most people only want to upgrade so they can get hands-free phone usb input or iPhone compatibility we have had good results with a head unit upgrade and a added amp and sub in the boot this allows us to high pass the Bose system making it a lot clearer at volume Thumbs up

I can vouch for this, Custom Exotics have done my last two cars, customised dash to take double din unit.. And made it all work perfectly Thumbs up
