Re: C3 Auto Box Issue Just Developed

Mick Howes wrote (View Post):Full conversion, back in 2008, I paid £2400. The change makes the car feel like a modern car to drive, shifting is really smooth, and unlike the 3 speed, kick down ALWAYS works, dramatic when you get a full kickdown from top to first. Cruising at a steady 80mph is a pleasure, around 2300rpm, unlike the 4000 plus with the 3 speed!

Blimey Mick, OK, it was back in 2008, but that's not as much as I'd thought. I've always thought it good to keep the car original (it's still the original 'box, although re-biult), but I have to say the lower revs etc all sound very tempting, especially given the long hauls we do to CCF events here! Scratchchin

Personally, I'd never faff around with "hand operated cog swapping", its a "fun car" and there's no fun in doing that after 50 years of driving manual cars! Very Happy

Out of interest, is there an auto upgrade box that can be fitted, adding an extra gear or two, without the manual conversion hassle?

Yes, that's the 700R4 unit that Mick is talking about. Adds a top gear, giving the "longer legs" when cruising It replaces the stock TH350, but needs the additional work that Mick has mentioned. I do know few chaps who've done it themselves though......

Ah, right, totally got the wrong end of the stick, thought this was an upgrade to 4 speed manual thread, makes sense now why it’s so cheap. You learn something every day!

What is the issue with your auto box - amazing what an oil change can cure in an auto box.
