Lights

Hi All
You can obviously tell I am on the final stretch of a 2 year restoration of my 1980 C3.
Just about completed all the lights. I have connected the front marker to the indicators, and left the rear red markers as reflectors. I have been scratching my head about the rear lights. However thumbing through the latest edition of Vette News, I noticed a couple of pics with C3 rear ends sporting red standard brake/ indicators.
Is this ok in the UK or again am I missing something.

Re: Lights

I have four reds that have been converted to LED by http://www.brightlight-customs.co.uk/

So they show red on stop and tail, but amber on hazard and turn

Speak with Nathan he is a good guy.

Re: Lights

Now this a really dumb question, but how do you get red lights to flash amber?

Re: Lights

It is only the Lens that is red, shows amber when a strong amber LED behind it.

Re: Lights

on my 75 I put the indicators in the reverse light location and don't have reverse lights, not sure if the 80's have the same light setup though ?

Here we go for a Mustang

Retain the red lens but show red or amber on demand

Re: Lights

The "Sequential"is perhaps a bit "blingy" on a classic, but the flashing amber through a red lens is pretty cool.

I may well have gone for that if LED's had been invented back in 1990! Laughing Laughing

Incidentally Delb, I've re-instated the red side markers on our '78. Not sure they are totally legal, Scratchchin but they look good and do show from behind. Like you, I've linked the front side markers into the indicators.

Re: Lights

Hi Stephen I agree with the "bling" not being correct for a classic, my rears are not sequential, but they do have an array of small LEDs within each unit, which again is not desireable.

When I asked Nathan for the LEDs it was more a question of could he do it as the rears are one piece sealed units and would the amber be bright and discernable, at that time I had not seen an LED conversion showing a monolithic amber.

But hey ho, I now know for the next life and it was a small price to pay for retaining the reds and obtaining an MOT.

Re: Lights

I just done my 81 the same as Vaughn says, use the reverse light as indicator, search on the forum under C3 tech and there is an article and wiring diagram, basically run a new stop light supply from the brake light switch.

Re: Lights

Hi All
VMT for all your advice. I am feeling a bit humble at present, because when I unpacked the rear lights they were nothing like I expected. The inners are as expected, but the outlets are 50% Amber, and the bottom 50% is red. The top half is indicator, and the bottom brake/ side.
All a bit strange, but it will work. Anybody come across these before?
