Im interested in a C5 Z06 (this time next year)

Hi,

Ive been looking at C5s for almost a year now and finally feel im ready to ask some questions.

I have recently purchased my first flat, with a garage, aswell as a Toyota iQ as a cheap to run daily car to run alongside my mk3 MR2.

However the long term plan has been to replace the MR2 (which has been and is an amazing car) with something considerably faster.
The car at the top of my realistic wish list for nearly a year now, has been a c5 Z06.
I havnt been in one and AFAIK i havnt knowingly seen a c5 Z06 in the flesh.
They just seem to tick an awful lot of my "want" boxes though.

Relatively cheap to run.
Manual
V8
Quick
Rare
Eventful.

However they seem to be like hens teeth...
Scouring the whole of the EU i cant seem to find any for sale.

Where are they all?
Or is it a case of posting a wanted ad when im ready to buy and hoping for a good response?

I wouldnt totally rule out a standard manual C5, but it isnt my first choice.
(nor have i ruled out going to the states and importing one, but thats a different subject entirely)

Thank you and i hope i become a long serving member of this forum.

If anyone in the South of the UK has a C5 and would be willing to show me around... Smile

Regards
Ben

Hey Ben. Unfortunately C5Z's are quite rare in the UK. Got mine about 3 years ago. I didn't have to wait too long for one to come up, but I think I just had lucky timing. Certainly feel lucky to own one! You might want to consider sourcing one in the states and importing it. Plenty of members on here have imported their vettes themselves. I'm sure I've seen posts on here detailing how to go about doing it.

While I've never seen more than 5 together at any one time (at the CCUK Nationals), the Essex region seems to have more than its fair share at 3. Our next monthly meet is on the 17th Oct at the Red Lion in Margettering from 7pm. I'll be there with my Z and don't mind showing it off . Weather dependent I'll also be attending TopCats Racing's event on Sat 20 October at their workshop in Aylesbury. All the details are listed in the events calendar on this site.

Im very interested in attending on the 17th if thats ok.

Does anyone have an idea on a rough cost to import?

Would it be reasonable to consider the dollar price of the car to be the same as the gbp price once imported, registered, duties paid and converted??

Finally, whats the average price for a Z06 in the uk? I noticed the two that were posted on here a few months ago at £18k

Thanks

Hi Ben I will be at the Essex meet in my ProCharged Zed!
As for importing one, the issue is the US prices, they hold there money! And if you say found one for $25k that would land in the U.K. for over £30k, and yes I haven’t got the dollar and pound sides mixed up.
It’s just not viable at the moment with the dollar rate.
As for the £18k car for sale it was my mates car and was a 2002 with high mileage, not that there’s a issue as they are bullet proof.
If you want a low mileage 2002/03 be prepared to pay upwards of £20k if you can find one. I will be selling mine but it’s a 2004 LeMans edition with 46,000 miles and is over 600bhp with the Procharger, the LeMans edition is known as the ‘Holy Grail’ of C5 Z06s, I will be looking for around £24k’ish.
Hopefully see you at the Essex meet for a chat, Tony👍🏻

Unfortunately I can no longer make the meet courtesy of a screw puncturing a front tyre in just the wrong place so that it can't be repaired. Sourcing a replacement has been less than fun. Tony's going to be there though and his Z is well worth a look over.
