Re: What did you do with your Vette today?

Went for a little drive on Wednesday when the weather was nice:

Then my friend Vesa was planning to drive up to Malvern for a show. With no optispark to worry about, I got out of bed early and we headed up. His friend was over from Finland too and he's a big Mini nut. There was plenty there for him to see and he got some souvenirs. We drove home through Abergavenny, Usk and along the coast road. All my favourite roads I know from cycling! I use my car year round so no issues but Vesa had bypassed a leaky heater core so his demister was rather modest!!

Got the old girl out to be towed to Amersham.. where she will be flying the flag for corvettes over the next few days, making a cameo appearance in the upcoming film 'Rocketman' - the story of Elton John's rise to stardom...

Now... I'll feel obligated to see the flick... Scratchchin

I'm a bit slow, but seeing your car's photo has just made me realise you are the Dave on Facebook "American Cars UK" that at some point I conversed with on one of the threads there.

Lovely looking car (mine was the blue 1968 looks like a big block but is actually a small block).

Yes.. I was working, so couldn't really squeeze it into my timetable.. I ended up having it towed both ways, which ate into proceeds, but still better than having it sat in the shed for 3 days!

Took my c5 to Topcats racing for a differential rebuild and to fix reverse gear that sometimes pops out.

Hopefully be finished before it snows Smile

Re: What did you do with your Vette today?

I fitted two new front disc brakes to a friends C3 yesterday because they were both leaking fluid and had been for some time by the looks of it and the fluid was black. Pedal was going to the floor with all the air in the system.

He didn't know that was not alright until they actually started failing. Why would he? He's not a mechanic.

It's things like this that really worry me about the "no MOT needed" ruling for the older cars.

People that are not mechanically minded don't know all the ins and outs of vehicle servicing. The compulsory MOT was a big safety net even for those of us that are because despite my experience there are things that my MOT guy picks up and warns me about that I hadn't noticed.

Could have ended in a tragic accident this and I bet there are worse cars that that out there now.

In fact I know that another one of my friends is driving an early '70's Ford Ranchero almost daily that would not pass an MOT on the brakes alone. She doesn't seem to be worried about it. Rolling Eyes

It all seems so wrong this.

A vehicle that is mot exempt still has to be roadworthy legally and to validate insurance. Historic status isn't the free ticket some think it is.

Sounds to me that the Ranchero is an accident about to happen. Maybe you should explain that to her and offer to take a look.
