C5 petrol cap repair?

I'm looking at buying a C5 which requires the petrol cap release to be repaired (currently has to be released manually by opening the boot, etc). Is this an easy repair? The owner is supplying a new catch... Scratchchin

I believe it can be the switch on the centre console, in the arm-rest storage area that is often the part that fails. I don't think it is that difficult to get to and replace. I bought mine from a Chevy dealer in Detroit and it had this issue which the dealer repaired within about an hour. What is the new "catch" that the owner is supplying? The manual release is very easy to operate in the mean-time as it is a cable (like a bike brake cable) tucked away in the trunk near the fuel filler.

Re: C5 petrol cap repair?

Assuming the connections are good under the console and at the fuel filler door, its either the fuel tank filler door lock release switch or the fuel tank filler door lock release actuator which have died.

I'd take a good look at the connector in the console first as its easy to disturb it if you work in there or remove the console (which happens often).

I can send you the tech procedure if you PM me with your e mail. Its in a table so its difficult to read if I post it here.

Its simple circuit if you want to troubleshoot it.

If you're happy its the actuator you need to remove the wheel well liner and the inner carpet to get at the fittings. Again I can send the procedure but its slightly different for a Coupe vs a Convertible.
