Calendar Event: 16 Jun - 17 Jun

This years exciting race will take place over the weekend of 16th and 17th June.

I'm sure we'll all be rooting for Corvette Racing to repeat the success of 2015 when they won the GTE Pro Class.

Can they beat Ferrari, Ford and Aston Martin this year? It was so close in 2017 when the team were denied on the last lap due to an error by the leading Corvette with only yards to go to the chequered flag.

If you want to go make sure you have your itinerary and accommodation sorted well in advance.

Plenty of guided packages on the internet or join up with others in the Club who have been before and know the ropes.

If you want to start a sensible discussion please post below

Not forgetting, of course, that Gerard Planche normally puts together a package specifically for Corvette owners which includes parking in the "Corvette Corral".

we'd love to do this sometime

when does Gerard publicise the event / facility that he has put together?
It always looks so well organised Clap

He sends out an email, usually at quite short notice. I haven't been for a while. He has had to change the location of the Corral so hopefully someone who has been recently could chip in with more information.

The Coral has been adjacent to the Car Wash at the first traffic Island inside the track at the Arnarge entrance for the last three years. Although its not "trackside" its still a good base with onsite security guards organised by Gerrard for the cars.
Facilities are still good (marquee and toilets + camping space) but nowhere near what the Astons and Ford mob enjoy.
Missed last year due to a trip to US, but am already ticketed up for this year. Gerrard will email around May time with details of Corral costs, which are usually in the region of 300 for a car and two passengers. This includes evening meal on Saturday night. There is a meal also on Firday night although we tend to get a Pizza whilst watching the drivers parade.
I (or someone) will upload the details and booking form as soon as it is available, but as Rich says it will be last minute.

As a foot note, during the 2016 Corral a coach load of NCM members attended the Corral. GM's vice president also came to visit and one of the more elderly US ladies ripped him a new one over facilities compared to the other teams. Free grandstand tickets soon appeared, so maybe GM will help out a little more this year. But dont hold your breath.

Thanks Jason

So the 300 approx. DOES NOT include admission to the circuit?

Bill, Gerard includes the cost of general admission tickets in his "options list". Based on last year's prices, 300 would probably just about cover it, if you bought tickets as well. Admission tickets are needed if you want to go into the circuit as the "coral" is outside. there are extras like dinners etc as well.

To my mind it's too expensive.......

On the subject of Le Mans 2018, there is an extra piece of news that I can now impart, as the "official" announcement was made on Saturday.

The Association Virage Mulsanne has put on an event at Mulsanne Corner, on the circuit, for that last few years, on the Friday before race weekend. A similar, but smaller, more intimate event than the St Saturnin Classic British Welcome, "interesting" cars are welcomed and parked along the trackside from Mulsanne Corner towards Indianapolis. Food and drinks, some "trade type" stands etc are on hand.

In recent years, the Association has hosted a particular marque and for 2018 that marque will be Corvette.

Details are yet to be released on the associations website ( http://www.viragedemulsanne.org/fr/infos-pratiques/ ) but in the past the featured marque cars have been parked separately on a section track, crews have been provided with a unique "rally plaque" with a design by local artist Ray Toombs, a lunch and drink and there are opportunities for such things as Parade des Pilot places.

Note, pre-entry is necessary, but there is no charge. When this year's details are fully revealed, I believe that there will be an on-line registration form available.

A few of us attended last year, when the featured marque was Jaguar and we had a very enjoyable time. St Saturnin is great, but the Mulsanne event is quieter, less busy, and there were virtually no queues to get in or out!

I know that the association is hoping for a huge turnout of Corvettes (there are a lot based in and around Le Mans!), so if you're coming down to La Sarthe, they'd love to see you.

(Incidentally, the Corvette Club France will have a "presence" at the event, but I'm not involved in any of the organisation!)
