Almost poetic Barry - how does the saying go? "The grass is always greener on the other side of the hill" - in this case the comparison will surely be "The oil will always be more contaminated once its emptied from the sump"

Family things to do today - however whilst dinner was being prepared I sneaked 40 minutes in the garage jacking the front end up in the air and sliding a pair of ramps under the front wheels, blocking-up the rear wheels ready for me sliding underneath during the week.

Update
This is what was found today. Oil pump was lightly seized. Disassembled the pump and small pieces of metal were present inside and the piece of wire. Logic would say that metal debris from the sheared oil pump drive in the base of the distributor has entered the oil pump and caused it to seize. The other explanation could be that metal particles from something else have entered the oil pump, seizing-it and THAT causing the oil pump drive to shear. The oil pan issue (I think) is unconnected. Simply a crap quality after-market oil pan with poor quality welding causing the windage tray to 'touch' no. 3 con-rod (which shows no sign of damage other that a few minor surface scratches.

I’m glad that’s all you found. Must be about the cheapest outcome possible. Start peeling off the RTV sealant and order the bits. It should all be back together by next Sunday lunchtime. Thumbs up
