Re: What did you do with your Vette today?

Yesterday i finally got around to putting headlining in my ZR1. The old one was so loose i pulled it out months ago just so i didn't have to watch it flap around.

No headlining....

Then today i attempted to find my vacuum leak that started after I changed the belt and alternator a few weeks ago. The leak is making the secondary pump cycle on and off constantly when the ignition is on, and it's contributing to a very high idle c1200rpm.
Image

In line with my usual success with these jobs, the vacuum line out from the plenum to the vacuum pump was incredibly brittle, and upon attempting to separate the line at its rubber join, the hose then split cleanly creating a sour situation.
Image

I had to perform a temporary fix and tape the line back together. Obviously i now have an even worse vacuum leak than before, the pump now stays constantly on when the ignition is on, and the idle is higher than it was before. And now need new vacuum hoses.

I took off the cover, looked at it, thought how fabulous it is and covered it up again!

I did something I swore I wouldn't. I had headers fabricated and fitted by the boys at Advanced Automotive Systems.

The result is a more crisp throttle response and a lovely sound when accelerating.

It SOUNDS faster. Time will tell if it really does MAKE the car faster.

Only drawback is the noise level in the interior is quite high. Reminds me of my old Mopars. So it's more like driving a race car than a sophisticated cruiser.
I could fit sound deadening. Or I might just get used to it. Very Happy

Yes the 'X' pipe sound. People tell me that mine (has an 'X' pipe) sounds totally different to other V8's especially at higher revs. Guess its something to do with the exhaust pulses being equalised through two pipes.........was it just the front part of the system Dave?
