Facebook page

Hi there.

Just a thought on the facebook group.
Could it not set to be "closed" rather than "public"?

I just think that if i post or comment, its something i dont really think my facebook friends are interested in seeing popping up on their newsfeed.
I have a freind who is in a "public" fishing group, and i get his posts popping up all the time.

regards

Norman

Re: Facebook page

Having only recently returned to these pages, I must confess I thought the same. Willy

However, I also do not always want everyone seeing how I spend my 'own' time when I have to have work related people follow me on Facebook.

Just my 2c.

Re: Facebook page

Simple answer - Don't use Facebook!!

I've said before I completely disagree with CCCUK having a facebook page - we have an excellent website that provides anything and everything that the anti-social-network claims to do, only better!

Re: Facebook page

Much like Steve I am not a great fan of Facebook but I do use it. However it's a vital tool in promoting the Club and raising our public profile. Sadly I have no idea what the implications are if it was "closed".

The benefits of the website include the ability to comment on a thread and, particularly for technical advice, it can be retrieved later with a search.

Re: Facebook page

Agree with you Stephen, fb is useless, especially connected to a hobby forum such as this, who cares other than the people here, that's why you have this forum, works somewhat well.

A few links as to why not for me.

I know this has been cited as a reason in the past Rich. If it is so important (I still question that) then I fail to see why a facebook page entry needs to be any more than a link to this website, with no provision for posting anything.

And, all that Norm said! Thumbs up Smile

I understand that social media (such as Facebook) is not everyone's cup of tea nor is it always a good thing, but managed well, it can be a great resource and can and does attract new people.

Point in question, I think I read there are just over 900 members in the club, (soon to increase when I rejoin) but yet there are 1,279 following on Facebook.

It only takes a second to add a photo or a video there which is part of the appeal to the younger generation who want instant accessibility.

Almost every forum that I am a member of (with just one or two exceptions), has seen a massive decline in posts due to social media (which is a shame) but it is how things are.

Both should be used to the best of their ability in my personal view.

Hi Rich (it's been a while!)

A closed group on Facebook means - 'Anyone can find the group and see who runs it. Only members can see who's in it and what they post.'

I hope that helps?

Re: Facebook page

Fb matches this forum and in fact it does it simpler and faster, (..ever tried uploading an image onto here from your phone?) and you can be in control of your posts and who sees them.

Yes you can comment on threads and seek technical advice on Fb. There's only a small minority of CCCUK members use this forum anyway..

Dont see a problem, apart maybe an age one. By all means have it closed to non members.

Seems i have a few fans in the US..

Re: Facebook page

Our 'new' CCCUK forum is actually up and running alongside this forum. Its in 'beta' development stage currently as it's being built-up and added-to. Features like image hosting will be very simple to achieve.
