Corvette C6 Aftermarket stereo.

Hi chaps,

We've just got a nice 2005 C6 Manual, (with HUD and Bose if it matters).

We would like to fit an aftermarket stereo to it, and have a double din stereo ready to go in (for various reasons mainly for USB and hands free). I can get the facia adapter easily, the aerial adapter isn't a huge problem either, however I'm used to fitting a simple wiring converter to adapt factory wiring to the standard iso plugs on the back of stereos. Looking through various sources it appears with the C6 you are supposed to use an interface box, seemingly to retain use of various systems including chimes, onstar (we don't have), nav interface with hud (we don't have this), steering wheel controls (we also don't have these). As we aren't massively bothered about (infact I'd be glad to get rid of them) the chimes and we don't seem to have anything else it affects can I just fit a straight wiring connector even if I have to make one or will it throw lots of fault codes once it detects the stereo isn't there?

The closest job I've done to this was on my jeep which also had an upgraded factory stereo with an amp etc. And I worried about whether a basic wiring kit would keep all that working and it did, but is something similar available for the C6? If I have to I'm prepared to remove the factory amp and speakers and replace with aftermarket (I'd prefer not to have to ideally we aren't going for a full ICE install just want to have a bit more flexibility with the head unit). But my big concern is the can bus.

Has anyone else been here?

I must admit this isn't being driven by tightness, I would for the sake of ease and the fact that they seem to have everything available in one place buy from Crutchfield who basically do a full kit for the job but they don't ship to the UK.

Any ideas?

Hi Alan many thanks, that's been useful, I'm basically at the point now of just needing to order the wiring kit, got the stereo/facia and aerial adaptor.

I'm looking at the same pac wiring kit you bought, it's less than clear (and PACs website doesn't help much, and no contact details for them either) whether it will work on a bose equipped car. Do you have any idea?

Hi there,

Because of the Bose I think you need the RP5-GM11 but if you search for Denis at double d on the USA forum and send him an email I am sure he will help. Mine was non Bose, hence the RP3-GM11.

That's great, it's a good unit, especially Android Auto with decent sound.
