1962 327 340 bhp 4 speed manual stalling

Hello, I am new to this forum and I am hoping that someone in the Club may be familiar with my problem. I have only owned my Vette for nearly four weeks. It runs and drives beautifully in city traffic without any stalling issues. However, if I have been on the motorway driving steady at 50 to 55 mph for 10 miles or so the engine stalls as soon as I stop. It actually stalls just before I come to a stop so sometimes if I gear down and release the clutch before coming to a stop the engine will turn over and restart before stopping. There is no sputtering or hesitation, it just cuts out. Needless to say this has caused a few near miss moments so I am desperate to have the issue resolved. Previous suggestions have included faulty distributor condensor, heat transferring from exhaust manifold to fuel line, vapour lock and flooding but no solution yet. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you.

Have you monitored engine temperature in both situations. Are you getting fuel flowing from the pump. Are float levels correct.

Temperature is steady at about 185 degrees in both driving conditions. Idle, timing and I assume float level was adjusted professionally last week but I will confirm that later. I have not checked fuel level when the stall actually occurs because of traffic conditions. I will try driving on the motorway and stopping in a lay-by where I can pop the hood when it stalls.

I forgot to mention that the previous owner has fitted a Holley double pumper.carburetttor to keep up with a high performance camshaft - not sure if that is relevant but thanks for the prompt reply.

Double pumpers can be prone to flooding engine when stopping suddenly if they don't have a 'snorkel' fitted in the float bowl - if its a new higher spec carb it should have that fitted. Is it the stock inlet manifold? if not put a spirit level on the carb to see if its level - if not you'll need to compensate the float levels.

Thanks for the reply and please accept my apology for not having posted sooner (circumstances beyond my control). The carb model number is GR3760B and it is stamped 6497 list 4777. I don’t know if that is a new higher spec carb. There is a tube inside the carb throat but I don’t know if that is the “snorkel”. The manifold is stock numbered 3795397. It has been suggested that a new intake manifold gasket with blocking plates for the two center ports may solve the problem if the stalling is due to “percolation” or vapour lock. Also, installing an electric fuel pump has been suggested. Again, any advice will be greatly appreciated.
