C3 radiator support panel change

I needed to do this last year on my '78 but it looked a pain so I left it. I already have a new support panel but I'm wondering if there's a good "how to" on the steps needed to do this correctly? Maybe a good article or video? What needs to be removed and in what order etc etc.

I'm working pretty much alone so I reckon it'll take a while, and not having to reinvent the wheel getting stuck where others have found solutions in the past is the best way forward IMO.

Thanks.

Dave.

This is the frame around the radiator you're talking about? It bolts at the sides to the inner wings and at the bottom to the front chassis extension?

This thing:

If so, it's a pretty easy job to replace it. It's been over a decade since I had to do it but here are the steps to follow, I think:

1. Remove the bonnet.
2. Drain the coolant system.
3. Remove the fan shroud (which will either be easy or a complete arse depending on the style).
4. Remove the radiator. (It lifts up and out, and I used to do it standing on the rocker covers.)
5. Unbolt the radiator frame and lift it out.

If your fan shroud is like the one on my '76 it'll be a pain in the bum, so unbolting the radiator support frame to create space would help.

Where did you get the new support frame? I bought mine from Eckler's ~8 years ago and lots of the holes/brackets are in the wrong positions, so it wasn't a drop-in replacement Banghead
Check the dimensions of yours before you start, would be my advice!

Thanks for the reply Ben.

Although I've never seen the support panel from that angle of "nakedness", yes that's what I mean. I'd already heard that the quality of the replacement parts can be very hit and miss, and to be honest I've simply taken a gamble and sourced one from Coffman Corvette last year. I must admit I'm not looking forward to doing this job but if a cloud has a silver lining, the removal of the bonnet, radiator, and panel will give me plenty of access to test why the headlights are so lazy (n/s maybe 10 seconds, o/s maybe another 10 after that).

Thanks again for the info.
