Speaker help


Hello, I need to replace all four of the speakers in my 94 C4 as they have blown. I'm not looking to replace with the original set up - would just like to know what others have done with regards to purchasing speakers to fit where the exiting ones are, I want to retain the covers etc so the new speakers are not visible so as to keep the original look.

The car does not have the original head unit - when I purchased it this had been replaced with a JVC unit which did not work. I've just had a new kenwood unit fitted hence now only just discovering that the speakers are shot.

Morning

I replaced the speakers in my 1990 and recently in my 1993.
If your 94 originally had the Bose set up (Both of my vettes did) then no aftermarket head unit will work with the original speakers anyway.

What I did was replace the original headunit with a 100 ebay double din unit (looks and sounds great). Had to replace the speaker wires to front doors/rear compartment (quite easy to hide the wires behind the dash/carpets and I used a pair of 6x9inch in the rear and a pair of round 6inch in the front.

In my 1990 I spent more time making the enclosures air tight and solid around the new speakers to improve sound quality but did not bother in my 93 (Dont think it makes much difference anyway).

I did originally look at getting my Bose system repaired they suffer from the speaker amps failing and also the headunit is not very reliable but due to the cost, and even if perfect most american forums say it does not sound that great anyway so its not worth bothering with unless looking for a concours car.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, they are the original Delco ones. Are there any particular speakers you would recommend?

Evening

I would not worry to much about make, you are not going to make hifi quality sound
in a Corvette C4 without massive changes to the enclosures etc.

I got mine off ebay I think the 6x9s are Clarion and the 6inchs are Sony.

it was more about the size of the magnets fitting in the enclosures really. I'll tske a trip to halfords and see whats available,
