Tyres

Guys
Any out there with experience of cooper cobra tyres? I have been offered a new set at a very reasonable price. I will not be burning rubber or trying doughnuts, Nor will I be cornering at max chat.

I have been offered a set of 235/70 R15 which appears to be in the middle of what the manual recommends. Grateful for any feedback
Rgds Dell

I had a set or two many years ago on a trans-am..
Didnt fault them then although i may be wrong but i sort of remember them being a hard tyre.but i could be wrong

Re: Tyres

The diameter of these tyres works out at 28". Ideal tyre diameter for a C3 is 27" to be sure of clearances and the speedo being about right.
I've just gone from 255/60 (27") to 225/70 (27.4") tyres and all is fine. Car certainly drives better with the narrower tyre width.

Re: Tyres

When you say "new". Have you checked the date of manufacture?

Maybe they're cheaper for a reason

Having a lot of bhp is all very well, but on these forums it's torque that counts

I used Coopers on a 1979 pro-street Z28 I had a few years back and had no issues with them at all, they looked the business and gripped the road as well as any other tyres I've used on my yanks.

Re: Tyres

There is a another choice of 'American' tyre - Galaxy. I think it may be the only American tyre in the 225/70/15 size used on Vettes that has a speed rating of HR (130 mph) - having said that - their 235/60/15 and 245/60/15 have a speed rating of VR (149 mph)

Re: Tyres

As far as the tyre is concerned, nothing wrong with them, they will probably have an "M S" marking on them "Mud and Snow" so a softer compound, all the better to reduce / delay the onset of age hardening and dry grip.

If it is a C3 should be 225 70 15 or 255 60 15 - if the car is set up properly, with the correct tyre pressures, nothing wrong with the wider tyre, but if it is not set up at its best, the narrower tyre will be more forgiving.
