My 1959 Corvette has recently started to leak petrol from the carburettor linkage rods its a twin 4 bore carb
I live in Hampshire and desperately need a good mechanic who nows his way round one of these
Please help

Hi Antony,

Assuming that you still have the original carburettors, they should be Carter WCFBs. There is a good Service Manual for WCFBs here:

Best,

Re: Carburettor leaking

It might just be muck in the fuel bowl stopping the needles seating.

Re: Carburettor leaking

This happens quite regularly on my 1969 C3.

Fuel keeps leaking from the carb rods, and the engine runs too rich, and it just dies at low revs due to flooding.

If it is the same issue as mine, it is a really easy fix.

Crap/rust from the fuel tank gets sucked through the system and blocks the manual 'float' at the back of the carb. the needles can't reset and get jammed open, overfeeding petrol

Expensive total fix = strip and reseal your fuel tank, or buy a new one.

Medium fix = invest in an aftermarket very good fuel filter which will catch the particles before they reach the carb

Cheap fix = take of side of carb carefully (as there are small parts in there. Clean it all and put it back. takes about twenty minutes. All you need is a ratchet, a screwdriver and some tissue/cloth. DO NOT do this over the engine in case one of the small parts drops in. Just do this every time it happens.

Good luck!
