2025 ZR1 Guzzler Tax Will Be

A Chevy representative that the ZR1’s gas guzzler tax will be $3,000.

Being that the 2025 Corvette Z06’s gas guzzler tax is $3,000 for the 670-hp LT6,
the thought was that the ZR1’s rating would be higher, considering that it makes 1,064-hp from the twin-turbo LT7.

The Stingray and E-Ray share the 495-hp LT2, and there is no gas guzzler tax for that engine.

$189,490 = £146,383.67
Delivery to UK + tax + import + being shafted by the UK government and so forth = £146383.67 again.
Total: £300k (was £292,767.34 before rounding up issues to the nearest £100k for a laugh)

Tax per year: probably £1k as well.

I think I need to move to the USA for cheaper V8 fun

(caution: post is very much tongue in cheek, aimed at how much we get ripped off over here)

Our 20% VAT is the killer here in the UK, also the different rates between EU countries. It’s all Tax one way or another. That’s one of Trumps gripes re car taxation. Yes, our import tax is 10% we argue, but then VAT is applied, pushing it to over 30%. The US has no VAT on car imports from outside the US and about half the cost of import tax. Quite unfair me thinks.

Fact check - Pre Trump import duty for cars was typically 2.5% (25% for Trucks) and Sales Tax was applied based on the rules of the state in which the vehicle is registered. So not correct saying VAT is not applied to imports in the US.
Absolutely agree that EU and UK treat imports of US cars much less favourably than US treats import of EU cars.
The problem the UK has is we don't make our own cars anymore, we just make cars for other people. Everything we owned was sold off or shut down (in British Leyland case a good thing). When GM sold Vauxhall why on earth did the UK not buy it? The only market for Vauxhall is UK. And the French bought it. The friggin French !!!!!

The only part of a Stellantis owned Vauxhall is probably the badging.........I'm guessing the rest is Peugeot. Wonder what will happen to Nissan in the UK if they can't find a 'partner'company.

Just read that production of Vauxhall’s at Luton has ceased after 120 years. Wow, such a shame. A few friends had jobs at Luton. End of an era.

Nissan is a weird one. Europe wise the U.K. is the market, the Europeans don’t really buy Nissans. What’s available to us is a small selection mostly of rebadged Renaults. The US is Nissan. Luckily Japan is RHD so as long as they can be compliant they will still sell here, even if production ends and of corse it’s profitable. This is why we didn’t get the new 400z, too much aggro for too low a return. It’s a spec on its own.
