700R4 Filter...

Has anyone fitted a new style filter to their 700R4 autobox?
I'm really struggling with this one.
The old one came out easily including its O ring, but the replacement has an orange ribbed seal and its mega tight to push in, compounded as the filter body is a bit fragile and its spout is at an awkward angle for hard pressure or bumping in with a mallet!
Going to try warming the seal (which doesnt come off without damage) and lubeing with silicon grease..20201205_150114.jpg20201205_150217.jpg20201205_150406.jpg

The orange seal doesnt just sit on the tube, it sits between two shoulders and wont come off without damaging it.
I think it also has an internal spring to keep it tight.
This was in a Rockauto $19 AC Delco GM kit with two gaskets for the two pan styles so I thought I was doing the right thing buying it, but I have reordered a different brand ($7 ATP) now as I feel I have compressed the bottom metal portion of the filter trying to fit it.
Spoke to Rockauto and they say it is correct for my '87 and should fit, but have told me to not bother to return it and they gave me a $30 refund.
We'll see how the other one fits when it arrives.
I'm working under the car on ramps so space is a bit tight. Might try a flat piece of wood and a jack to press it in if Its still not fitting. No idea why it needs to be so tight as its never going to drop out.. 🤔

The sheet metal bottom of the filter is very thin and I pushed mine in a tad trying to fit it, s'why I buying another one ( ATP this time, not GM/AC Delco).
Once this is done, I'll play with it later to see if I can pull the indented bottom of the filter back out. Don't want to waste it. 🤔

Got my new ATP filter today, all the way from USA with no customs charges this time unlike the previous AC Delco unit which hit me for an extra £16 as it came from Germany!
Both units supplied from Rockauto.. 20201211_111529.jpg

Well my new ATP filter fitted a treat with a bit of a shove.. 😁
Basically the Rockauto AC Delco/GM item was way too tight to fit and Rockauto gave me a 50% discount (purchase and shipping) for my trouble so I bought their $7 ATP filter which arrived quickly from the US with no customs charges, unlike the AC Delco item which came from Germany and incurred a £16 customs charge.
If anyone thinks these filters all come from the same place, your wrong.. There is a few differences between the two filters, the main one being that the ATP filter fits! 👍
