And you thought C8s were costly in the UK

The first five C8 2022 models were registered in Brazil during January through an exclusive independent program offered by Direct Imports, which imports and delivers new and pre-owned vehicles in São Paulo.

The South American subsidiary of General Motors, for some reason, doesn’t sell the C8 there, but Direct Imports has been regularly importing new Corvettes since the first quarter of 2020 on a limited basis.
Only 20 units have been sold each year because of manufacturing limitations and the high price tag.

“The Corvette C8 has been in high demand even in this bullish dollar scenario, and we were able to make reservations to secure these units for the lucky top 20,” said Direct Imports CEO Daniel Valerio in a press release, adding that there are still units left to close the company’s 2022 U.S. reserves.

That some cars are still available probably isn’t too surprising, since the base price of the 2022 Corvette in Brazil is the equivalent of
$264,900 USD or
1.4 Million BRL in local currency !

It does make you wonder. Say the cars 80k and tax is a whopping 100% that adds another 80k so it’s now 160k. Selling price 264k that makes the dealer 100k per vehicle. Nice work if you can get it.

There are a number of EU countries where punative taxation regimes mean that anyone buying a new car, especially a Vette is seriously stung..........ask any members living in Southern Ireland, ask our own Jonny Bens about Belgium. Here in the UK we get off comparitively lightly compared with some countries

Yes indeed. After-tax prices in places like the Netherlands and Denmark can be terrifying. Typically it's countries (such as Ireland) with no domestic motor industry to protect and who are pushing hard for low emissions.

I fear UK will head in a similar direction as Boris is determined to subsidise electric vehicle manufacture and will then "persuade" Brits to buy them by pricing everything else off the scale. The classic car market can't keep petrol stations open once the mainstream has gone electric. Well, either that or one pump in the corner of the charging station offering petrol at £20 a litre. Ouch.

Make hay while the sun shines!

If you take a snapshot right now of typical urban motoring you'll see a a whole mix of relatively new vehicles and a multitude of older cars perhaps up to 20 years old. I'm guessing the percentage of these older vehicles is greater than 70% of the total. Yes, new car buyers may choose electric whilst still available. Logic tells me that unless HMG deliberately withdraw fossil fuels from the market there will still be a significant demand for petrol and diesel (albeit reducing) for a good number of years. And given the looming energy crisis relating to gas and electricity its probably ideal for HMG as they will most certainly struggle to balance energy supply with consumer demand in future years, expecially if there is an unprecedented demand for electric vehicles. Irrrespective of whether you choose ICE or Electric its gonna cost you dear in future years.

A friend of mine has just sold her C8, it hasn’t been used much ( 1K miles or less) and it showed a massive profit. It was a third car. She has two Dodge chargers, one at home in Flagler beach FL, she works in Dallas TX and has one there. Comes home weekends, no time for the Vet. Decided to sell to a co worker. A Texan with a big hat and a wallet to match 😂 he’s been after it for a while as he can’t get one.
chevrolet have really pulled one out of the hat with the C8.

It's a really expensive car here in Belgium.

A guy that I know bought a black launch edition C8, with some extras on it, it was around 120.000 Euros. To put it on the road you have to pay first registration tax of 11.556,92 Euros, this is not the end. The annual road tax is 6840,00 Euros. Which makes it a very expensive car when you can finally drive it.
