C2 Window Trim Sealant

Hi folks, I'm finally pulling off the trim so I can strip the paint off and polish them back to something shiny.

As I've pried bits off, a bunch of old weather sealant (I think?) has come off - so what do you lovely folks recommend I use to reseal it?

Thanks in advance! ๐Ÿ™

Not sure about the sealant - could it have been a temporary fix applied in the past to stop some leaks? Perhaps others could advise. I haven't fitted mine yet and I haven't done the research on how to do it but I do remember buying a reel of butyl tape which (I think) acts as a bed for the screen to sit on and to seal it as there can be variable sized gaps between the screen frame and the screen itself. Butyl remains fairly soft and pliable many years after it is fitted - when taking the windshield off my '72 the butyl was still pretty gooey 50 years on. Removing it all from the frame was really messy.

For reviving old seals and treating some of the brittleness you get with seals that have been in the sun I can recommend Gummiphlege from Liqui Moly. I have used it on my 2014 Mercedes hard top convertible to make the seals a bit more flexible and it has worked really well, stopping some minor leaks into the car.

Cheers Tim! I still need to strip the black paint off and polish the trim pieces up, so I've got time to look at options. I expect it was a temporary fix, there's tonnes of the stuff in there (and the windows still leak). I'll check out the Gummiphlege and butyl tape - I expect I'll just be attacking it with a sealant gun when the time comes! ๐Ÿ˜…

I used this 3M product on a horsebox front screen with good results. Not the cheapest but for a job you only want to do once, don't cut corners

Hi, not sure if you already have a set but I have rubber windscreen surround and the clips for a C2 coupe. (see on the parts for sale page)
Hey - the rubber windscreen surround I've got is still in good nick - but some of my clips are snapped/rusted, if you've got spares I'd take a look at them.
