C7 battery replacement

Does anyone know EXACTLY what battery is needed for C7 replacement? I'm planning a precautionary replacement (over 5 years old) and would prefer not to dig out the existing battery just to read the writing on the side. It's buried deep back there...

Any tips for UK suppliers also appreciated.

I'd phone Ian Allan, ask them which battery they would fit and cost, and then look elsewhere for probably cheaper option. This is what RockAuto have:

Always get my batteries from Tayna batteries in Wrexham, they guarantee to be the cheapest, but cant see they have one for C7 on their website at mo. Do you have the GM accessory plug in battery conditioner/charger on your car? If so, might need to check that it will work on the replacement battery. Think the OE ones are "AGM" type batteries, like Optima Red Tops etc. RockAuto ones above seem to be AGM also, looking at their part numbers. Probably more talk/info about it on the US Corvette forums?

Yup, I'm a regular at Mr Tayna's shop - useful people. As you say, they don't have a recommendation for this car. I'll take a look at the U.S. forum.

Nothing mentioned about that in the handbook (thankfully), but side windows may need "reprogrammed" when the battery has been disconnected. Couple of seconds job. Same as on the C6.

It's not a big job to program the ECU, but needs the correct scanner/ software. Got my go-to garage to install & scan as my scanner is a bit basic.

I may be wrong, but before you disconnect the old battery if you connect a spare 12v battery to the +ve point in the engine bay (under the lift up cover) and the -ve to earth all codes will be remembered

That is correct Bill, but on a Beemer you have to do what's called registration, where the ECU is told to look for the new battery & it adjusts the alternator charge, apparently to stop it overcharging etc. I only found this out after ordering the battery, but my lovely garage did it for £30, not bad. Just wonder what the score was with a new Vette

As he says in the comments - "I didn't have any issues other than having to reindex the windows and reset the radio presets. But they do make a device that you plug into the cigarette socket and is powered by a 9volt battery that will keep the computer from losing information". But says later that if the car has the factory Nav, you don't need to reset the radio presets.

I have recently bought a battery for my C6 from Tayna after having bought one for my C4 last year. I left the Ctek plugged into the cigarette socket while I did the swap and it kept all settings. A Google search had suggested the 9v battery module option but I don’t have one but do use the CTEK via the socket normally to trickle charge the car so went for that option and it worked perfectly.

Nice one! Never had a CTEK, and didn't realise that using the cigarette socket was a good trickle charge connector point. Learnt something there.

I had a dead battery after just three years, so driving regularly or charging just as often (seems fortnightly is ideal).

Had battery installed by mobile mechanic - word of warning, terminals are other way round from "normal", so check before buying.

Lastly, I've now got a warning "service trackstability". I'm hoping a run when back on the road will reset - any ideas?

Where are you based? Do you mean "Service Stabilitrak" warning message? As it says in here (see Video) , failing battery can lead to all sorts error codes coming up, including that one. But saying as you have a new one, that shouldn't be the cause?

Which new battery did you get as a matter of interest? Why don't you have a battery conditioner attached when not in use? The guy asking the question in the link is a UK guy and Club member ("UTH"). PM him and ask how it was sorted? Ian Goss in Surbiton has serviced his car.

Finally got motivated to battery replacement, my original Delco battery now being six and a half years old.
New battery = Enduroline 096 (75 Ah 700 CCA) from Tayna at a very reasonable £83, delivered. Compare dealer fitted Delco at £396
Essential to watch the Youtube videos before attempting this job, it's a lot more complicated than chucking a new battery onto an old Mk 2 Escort. There's loads of clutter mounted on top of the battery which has to be carefully removed. In addition to the stuff on the +ve side shown in the videos my car has an additional two cables running to the -ve terminal which must also be removed and insulated.
Best have an assistant to hold stuff out of the way while dropping in the new battery.

Note 1: There's no point trying to attach another battery to keep your electronics alive during the process, it doesn't work. There's too much stuff which has to be disconnected and breaks the circuits.
Note 2: Alarm may sound when the battery is reconnected. Shut it off by locking the car with the fob.
Note 3: Windows will require re-indexing when the ignition is switched on. The DIC will prompt for this process.
Note 4: Outside temperature display may stop working and may return after a number of re-starts.

Good advice Stingray, Worth mentioning that:
1) It's easy to rip the (cheap) OE trunk carpet at the corner A replacement is £1,500 new someone was telling me
2) Glad you got the right battery from Tayna first time. When I looked a couple of months ago, the recommended battery was Enduroline 096R/680 CCA, but that had the terminals on the wrong sides.
3) Don't think the OE accessory conditioner/charger that plugs into the socket in the trunk is the best (if you have one). The lads in Notts region with C7s/Camaros have bought 8amp conditioners/chargers, attaching them (+ )to the charging terminal in the engine. I've done that.
4) Battery on mine had already been replaced with a Bosch S4008 (680CCA/74 Ah).
