Hi, Please could you help with the following query.

I wish to purchase a code reader for my 1982 CE. There seems to be plenty on the market, can any one recommend a suitable reader, please. I am looking to spend around £30:00

You won't get any code readers for that price.
Assuming you have an OBD1 / ALDL port.
The cheapest option is to get an ALDL cable and use software on a laptop.

How do I find out whether I have an OBD1 or an ALDL port?

OBD-I was not part of GM vehicles till 1985 and was very limited in what it could show, so that is after C4s came out, not C3s
Full OBD-I was not around till 1994 C4s

If there was some special diagnostics for a C3 ?
There would be a DLC under the dash and a jumper wire was used across DLC pins that would flash code numbers
Check owner's manual to see if that even existed
