Johor Motorsports Racing has confirmed its driver lineups for the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa and Suzuka 1000km, as it prepares to tackle additional races with its Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R outside of GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS.
The Malaysian team scored a win on home turf in last weekend’s Sepang GTWC Asia opener in its first outing with Corvette machinery, as factory driver Alexander Sims and Prince Jefri Ibrahim gave the car its first win in the region.
At the time the team’s entry into GTWC Asia was announced, it was also revealed that JMR would be entering the 24H Spa and Suzuka 1000km rounds of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, as well as making a foray into International GT Open.
A team spokesperson confirmed that its entry for the 24H Spa in June will be shared by all four of its regular GTWC Asia drivers, with Sims and Prince Jefri joined by Jordan Love and Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim.
Sims and Love were both part of JMR’s lineup for last year’s running of the Belgian classic, together with Prince Jefri and Martin Konrad, driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo run in conjunction with Triple Eight.
For the Suzuka race in September, Sims and Love will be joined by another member of the works Corvette Racing roster, Nicky Catsburg.
Catsburg has experience of Suzuka from his outing in the 2019 edition of the Suzuka 10 Hours, when he drove a BMW M6 GT3 for Walkenhorst Motorsport.
Princes Jefri and Abu Bakar will share the JMR Corvette as a duo for the team’s one-off International GT Open round outing at Spa in May.
JMR has also clarified that Sims’ replacement for the GTWC Asia rounds that the British driver cannot attend due to clashes with his primary IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program with Corvette will be Ben Green.
Sims is set to miss the next three rounds of the series at Mandalika, Buriram and Fuji Speedway, due to clashes with the WeatherTech Championship events at Laguna Seca, Detroit and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park respectively.
Green is set to deputize for his fellow countryman Sims alongside Prince Jefri on those occasions in between his DTM commitments for Emil Frey Racing.
