Hi all....can anyone tell me if its possible to trace the history of my Vette....all I know is that she was imported from New York last year...is there anyway of tracing where she went first after she came off the production line?

Do you have a copy of the title when the car was imported. If you do, you can start from there. If it’s a NY title you can contact the NY DMV and get a title search, and go from there. It will be a long and possibly expensive thing to do, depending on how travelled your car was in its life. Also some states do not issue titles on vehicles over a certain age to new owners. NY is one of those, but it would have needed current registration for it to be exported, so again the DMV might be able to help.

I used the name on the title of my '69. A bit of googling and some facebooking came up trumps with the previous owner in the states. Scary stuff but he's very happy to know what the car's up to now. Unfortunately he bought the car from a bank who were holding the car against a loan and so makes it impossible to go any further back in time : (

I'll have to accept that I will never know its whole previous life, but I think some of us secretly imagine our cars being involved in movie-style car chases and American sunset boulevard dreams at some point. The reality is that many probably had a boring life, to-ing and fro-ing between suburbia and fast food outlets and fulfilling many mid-life crisis.

I'd like to trace the history on our '78. I know the dealer it went to new, in Fort Myers, but nothing else. I tried a few Florida Corvette Clubs, and had info that the Florida tax authority may be the route, as they handled/handle titles. But, was also warned of course that with the general paranoia in the US, it may be hard to get any info out of any official agencies. I haven't yet gone much further......

I lucked out on a '72 I owned that was listed on the C3 registry above and it had photos of it way back in the day posted by the original owner

The only history I do know about my 1980 model is that it did live the Californian dream sometime between new in 1980 and being shipped off to Japan in 1989 . US data shows it left the St. Louis , Missouri plant on 19th December 1979 so probably ended up at dealership show room in early January 1980 as the archetypal red Corvette . The first owner or A. N. Other owner was a member of the Bel Air Bay Club - Pacific Palisades , Los Angeles , California during that 9 year period as I found the windshield sticker for Membership Number 1111 lost down the front of the dashboard a couple of years ago . So at least I know it did at least do the whole ` Californian Dreaming ` boulevard cruising scene in its early life , which is pretty cool . The Bel Air Club pass is now re laminated and on display again in the wind shield . :)
