Customs and tax on USA parts purchase?

Can anyone advise me on the amounts charged for customs/tax on parts sourced from the States?. I am wanting a Body weatherstrip kit (doors/targa top/pillars etc) which works out at $249 plus shipping at $94 from Eklar's USA compared to £532 from Corvette Kingdom UK. If the customs/VAT is 20% on the $250 it still seems much cheaper to get from the States?

Rock Auto are out of stock atm for a full weatherstrip for a 79 ( what's yours Trev?) but they will be a much better price than Ecklers and their shipping rates are lower. Any VAT will be on the total btw.

I didn't think ecklers were shipping to the uk at the moment.... ?? I've used ecklers many times, and tend to bargain that the dollar price will end up being nearer the pound price after shipping customs etc.....if you can wait, its usually cheaper to ship in your parts ,rather than buying from a uk corvette specialist.

Just received a small part from Zip corvette. It was $28, (£24) Shipping was $14, (£12) sent 1st class USPS, took about 10 days. Then VAT @ 20%, plus £8 for parcel force handling charge. That came to £15. So total was £24+£12+ £15 = £51 more than double original price.
So it's : Cost + shipping X 20% vat+ handling charge. Hope that helps

A trade deal with Trump can't come soon enough🤔
If you can get the shipping "consolidated" as they refer to it in the US it will be shipped by Fedex and you pay all costs to the company you are buying from and that cuts out the Royal Mail hanging on to your parcel for 5 days and charging you for the privilege. Rock Auto offer that option.

Hi Bill, you are correct, & I do use them. Bought whole replacement suspension for my Grand Cherokee, unfortunately Rockauto don't stock trim or certain parts for Vettes.

I've noticed with RA that some items don't appear in the initial search boxes - but if you type in what you want in the search box they actually do stock them (y)

You can always get stuff sent via Ron at STS, great for large items but it takes awhile. 150 quid for a set of wheels, duty based on your sales invoice
