Early C3 fuel tank position

As with all things to do with my ‘70, I am not assuming anything is correct. And that includes the fuel tank.

all the images of replacement tanks have the filler cap located near the top edge of the tank. This ties up with what I have on mine. Looking Good so far right? Well, how come the cap is not located centrally to the flap? This came about when I purchased a replacement rubber ’skirt’ that sits around the filler neck and I couldn’t get it to sit right.

Question is then, how easy would it have been to fit the fuel tank in the wrong position (assuming one of the previous owners replaced it at some point)? Or have they fitted the wrong tank somehow?

The only thing keeping your tank in place is the two straps. Loosen both straps and push tank to one side until it’s central with petrol lid hole. It’s a 2 minute job.

Yes should be fine, I take it it’s no more than an inch out of centre? Whoever fitted the tank must of been in a hurry as as once you lower it back on to tank support they are virtually in correct position Unless rear frame rails are twisted.

Ah ! The classic 2 minute job on a car ? That`ll be at least half a day and lots of F`in and cursing then !
to the wife - "I'm just going to unbolt my rear bumper on the Vette whilst I've got a few minutes - its only 4 bolts so will take me 5 minutes".

I discover I only have 3 bolts holding my rear bumpers on - result, even quicker - but needless to say it I was in the garage for a lot, lot, lot, CURSE WORD, longer :ROFLMAO:

I find as I get older, I lack the confidence to do simple jobs, when in the past I have undertaken all manner of tasks succesfully without issue and without pre-knowledge and before the benefit of the internet, I am brill at procrastination and over tightening bolts - does anyone need my help?

Filler neck on my '68 is central, looking from left to right if car (but perhaps 1/2" off-centre rearwards)

I have a knackered procrastinator that needs sorting out , when are you free ? 🤣
I shall have to consult my Diary, but I will have to go and get it from where I left it and that will take time that I have not got

Perhaps I should change my name to Robinson Crusoe - Then I can get all my work done by Friday

Oh - Crispy do not worry about the position of your Filler Neck - it is Fine!
