Egg crate rattle

Anyone had an issue with rattly side egg crate fender vents on their 70/ 71 or 72 vette? I have had a weird noise , if I give the throttle a blip in neutral up to 3k . I thought it sounded a bit like a belt slipping or a rough alternator bearing maybe. I actually think it is that the side vent is loose and rattling in its mounting I had previously plugged the top screw holes as the screws were not tight. I can mke it rattle by tapping the vent or front of the ali rocker panel cover. I am thinking of removing , putting some 3m double sided badge tape in the recess and re screwing it back in. Any thoughts? tiA👍

The vents are secured with two top screws, accessible from outside and a nut on a stud at the bottom, accessible from inside the engine bay. I've always found the nut (and spring washer) a particular pita to fit - maybe yours are missing? With all the fixings in place I've never knowingly experienced a rattle, but there's usually much more raucous noise going on! A much easier to assemble design would have been to replace the stud with a peg engaging with a slot while retaining the two external fixings - although this might have been more inclined to rattle.

Two screws in the top and a set screw from below should keep them from rattling. These were some originals that I had just painted and shows the location of the three fixings.. the pin-stripe masking tape took for ever to apply over the chrome edges
