Factory alarm

Does anyone use it? I would probably want that keyhole removed and patched up. Still confused why the designers placed it next to the side intake.

Get a 70/71/72 james , a bit cheaper pos than a 69 .?alarm key hole in rear panel and imho the best of all corvette grills πŸ‘πŸ˜love those eggcrates .
a lot of work to move keyhole from fender, re wire , make good , then repaint , you then have a non right for year alarm and next thing you know , the heavies from the NCRS will be knocking on your door !!😱😩πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

My 68 Vette has a key lock behind the driver's head on the outside of the car on the side of the "sugar scoop". I'm guessing that it is for an alarm. I don't have a key for it, and thus I've never used it.

I thought it was in the centre of the real tail light panel on 68’s

I don't anything about the alarm. I just know I have a key lock behind the driver's head on the inside of the sugar scoop. My particular 68 doesn't have a key lock on the rear panel by the lights. I'm guessing someone moved it there, or asked for it there from the factory? It looks "standard" and similar lock to the door locks, but I don't have a key for it, so don't know what it does.

Not sure on that. The alarm key is the same one that opens the doors, so locks may have been changed

here’s a standard tail end showing the alarm lock

I know on various ones I’ve had, doors, and hood activate it once armed. I seem to remember it may do the T-Tops as well, but not 100% sure on that one. Pretty loud when it goes off. Very basic by today’s standards but at least it offered a little bit of protection against the joyrider thief in those days.

It became a popular option in 1969 compared to 1968. People thought it was worth the $26.35 for a little piece of mind.

Just looked it up. It cost $26.35, and 388 cars had it.
Does that mean my 68 is a rare car then? I've got an extra lock externally on the sugar scoop behind the driver that (as above in other of my posts etc) is to do with the alarm as no idea what else it could be for. I have no keys for it (door key doesn't turn it unless it is just stuck), so don't know what it does.

And where would the actual alarm unit be positioned on the car? Then I could have a looksee to see if I have one.
