Fault code meter

Hi,

I own a 1982 C3 and the engine warning light comes on whilst driving then goes out after a while. To find the fault I am looking to buy a fault code meter. Any recommendations for around £25.00. Thank you for your help.

You can get the error codes by using like a paper clip to the DLC port

Turn the ignition to "on" but do not start the car. Make sure the check engine light is on.

Remove the ashtray. Get a paper clip and bend it into a "U" shape.
Insert the paper clip in the slots Jumping pins A and B on the connector. That's the two pins closest to the driver side.
They should be marked A and B.

Once the paper clip is in. The check engine light will flash...pay attention...anyway it will flash once....pause and flash twice faster....that means code 12.

It will flash this code twelve 3 times to signal it's in the check code mode.
Only after that will the stored trouble codes flash. So a code 43 will be 4 flashes followed by a brief pause then three flashes.
The system will flash all trouble codes. Example code 43 then code 21 etc. It will flash code 12 at the end 3 times to signal its done checking.
