Hi all, wondered if anyone has a pair of front bumper under riders for a 72 that I could borrow or hire while I send mine off for re chroming ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘

Awesome thanks - do you have any linkies or contact details? I too bought pattern rear bumpers for mine as it worked out cheaper. Need to do my front one at some point, when time and money are both in sync with each other. But handy to have re-chroming contacts.

You can borrow mine. They are not perfect - I'm half way through refurbishment as there were a couple of large holes in one of them and they'll need replating at some time, but they should keep everything in place whilst your originals are being done.

Let me know if you would like to borrow them and I will ship them down.

I had some done a few years ago but I'm miles away from you Mad. When you get them back make sure to protect the back of them as they can hold water and crud

Good plan, I had silver hammerited and waxoyled ghe backs of mine when I first got the car. Dropped them off at s and t electro plate in bristol . Nigel came back with a quote of 240 + vat. Which was a bit more than I hoped but I havโ€™nt had anything plated for 45 years So was probably way out of touch.
On speaking to nigel and he explained the process, in that they are actually plated 4 times not three as I thought. I had heard tales of cheap american single plating or โ€œshow chromeโ€ with little longevity but am happy that this is the real deal by seasoned proโ€™s . My one concern is that these may show up the egg crate grills and they may need to be done next !๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿคฃonce again thanks to Tim Pโ€™s generous and trusting loan of his ones so I can keep driving in style while mine are away. ๐Ÿ‘

Mad4 - how bad were your originals? - did they require building/welding-up with metal?
Hi ros, mine were sound with no rust or holes, but plating had flaked off in a couple of 1โ€sq areas and been hammerited, also one had been graunched up a sloped drive or sleeping policeman and profile โ€œflattedโ€ , I re shaped with a file so they will just need to dress and polish prio to plating. ๐Ÿ‘

Mine, sadly are rather moth eaten at the bottom part.....no doubt potentially repairable.....at a cost (but is it worth it?)

After being quoted 13 week lead time from another plater, who by the way couldnt or wouldnt book a job in ahead so it could be dropped when it was actually going to be worked on. And after reading reviews that a lot of parts got lost and some were returned with a really poor prep and finish , I declined their offer . A friend put me in touch with Kim from S & T electroplate in Yate, Bristol , I had also hearโ€™d good reports on this forum about the attention to detail I made contact.
Nigel, wanted to see the parts to be able to quote accurately so I dropped the under riders up on my run on the last wed of june , and asked if there was a possibilty of collecting on the last wed of july as I was up again. None of the usual head shaking and sucking air through teeth , Nigel said that it was not impossible and we would speak a couple of weeks before my run, we did so and he informed me that they were in the process and waiting for final polishing and plating, ( apparently they actually use a four plating process not three) a week before my run i had an email from Nigel informing me that the items were ready. Today, I called in and met Kim the owner /partner. And collected the under riders. Absolutely thrilled with the finish and the service from beginning to end . Proper craftsmen and proper old fashioned great service. Highly highly recommended.
A huge thank you too to ,โ€Tim Pโ€ (1972 restoration maestro as seen in the club magazine turning a sight unseen rot box into a completely restored and back from the brink corvette. ) for the generous loan of his own under riders to keep me cruising while mine were away. Glad you got a good result from S&T. I've used them for years - conveniently they're just a few miles down the road from me. Nigel has always given great service and the quality of their work has been above reproach. :)(y)

Yes antijam , mine were sound but plating flaking off and the profile flatted by steep drive or grounding out. They reshaped and polished and plated to better than new. ๐Ÿ‘brilliant
