Head light switch

hi , was fiddling with my headlamp switch to brighten my instrument lights and I pulled it out too far and the knob came off. I think I just un threaded it whilst turning up the dash lights , is it broken or is the knob seperate from the switch? Many thanks

Not sure if your switch is the same as mine, but on a 78 you can pull the switch out of the housing along with the rod. You have to press a spring loaded plunger to do this, yours might have been stuck in. This photo shows my switch in bits before I repaired it.

Thanks for that, I put it back in and am more gentle putting the lights on , it still works as it should. I would have to remove the switch to get to the plunger i presume?

Did the knob come off the end of the steel rod or did the whole thing come out as in John’s photo?

The rod came out as well

They’re supposed to come out when you press the button arrowed. Maybe you just pulled too hard
