OK, so this forum isn't exactly the busiest in the world, but it is most certainly a calm and relaxed place to be. I have to say that all the efforts made a few years from initially myself and a few other CCCUK members (plus of course Webmaster extraodinare Ben) in consigning the old, quirky, well past its 'sell-by' date forum finally 'to bed' and giving us the current format seem well appreciated. We certainly don't ever seem to see the 'outages' experienced with the old forum. More importantly the typical flow of spammers and nutters that would 'visit' the old forum, create havoc (and eventually get banned) seem well controlled.
Of course we also have the alternative 'environment' of the CCCUK Facebook pages which a number of long term members seem to use in preference to own forum pages.
In contrast the CCCUK FB pages seem to increasingly offer an alternative and 'free location' for those new to the Corvette world but perhaps far less interested in the social side and perhaps in 'mixing' with other Vette and CCCUK enthuiasts.
Unfortunately in the last few days a long term member used the FB pages to 'question' part of Mark Eatons excellent and latest feature in Februarys Vette News, creating a bit of a 'spat' until a moderator locked the thread, preventing things perhaps getting out of hand.
So thanks to all of you out there for making this forum a pleasant environment to post content and converse with other members.

What is the beef, as those of us who only use this forum, have no clue what the issue is ?

Mark is one of the best writers for Corvettes I have seen and that is even when I used to write for like Vette Mag or even GM's
Corvette Quarterly and Mark does better than those that write monthly

Thank you, Ross for your kind comments and to the moderators for too - intervention was timely I think

Oh wow, John! That is the most tremendous compliment - thank you so much. Means an awful lot coming from someone who knows as much about Corvette as you do. I will endeavour to keep up the standard. Thanks again.

I don't know what to say, Andy [and that's probably a first!]. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your very kind words. I am quite overcome by the responses here. Felt somewhat disheartened yesterday, but no longer thanks to some great friends here in the Club. Thank you so much

Briefly Jon - Mark (like all of us I'm guessing) is not a natural 'lover' of electric vehicles. I know (like myself) he will enjoy the arguable performance/economy benefits of a 'half way house' hybrid vehicle in an environment whilst a comprehensive and fully operable charging network is available nationwide. I guess it comes across in his writings. No harm in that. I also guess that 95%+ of our members prefer ICE powered vehicles (and will all sing from the same hymn sheet). We've seen over 120 years where petrol and derv powered vehicles have been dominant. A CCCUK member chose to 'call him out' on (as he saw it Mark's supposed preferences relating to ICE powered vehicles in the latest club magazine). Some inappropriate comments were subsequently posted and a moderator correctly IMHO locked the thread. Remembering the club's FB pages do not require CCCUK membership we do at times see some 'interesting' and unstructured comments being made at times. Quick and simple response was made - all over and done with!

It is very easy for people to complain as to what someone writes, but they really have no clue as to the amount of research and time it takes when someone is donating all that time to give content for others to simply read and then whine about that content as to what their view is but when asking them to publish Corvette content they are too busy

Print content is like half duplex going one direction, where understanding what was printed like in person gives a chance for the other side to really understand what the other was stating

Try going to the large Corvette forum in the USA, and ask a simple question or statement and 1,000 people will respond that you're a moron and give 1,000 different responses where most of that is incorrect
Example ask what type of engine oil to use that is good and get wacko answers and the person asking ends up with no solid answer to what oil they should use

I say it as I see it Mark
Your club mails me monthly the CCCUK magazine and I have seen many clubs all over the USA and I can see you put a lot of time and effort to DONATE your time for write-ups, so members can enjoy
You have a thankless task that gets little thanks and most take granted your efforts are
In any case, write it as you see it and ignore the whiners, and you never can please them all

A bad mag writer example

I paid all the costs and put on a drag race series called the "Top Gun Shootout" in late 1999s
It was only for C4 ZR-1s and Dodge Vipers

During one of the race events, people were coming to me bitching some guy was telling them they were not allowed
to take any photos as he was a writer for Vette magazine, and he owns the rights to all photos
He was really sorry he did that as the time I got done with him,
he found you never screw with a Corvette owner who was brought up in the streets of Chicago :)

BTW
Few days ago I got in the US mail the Dec issue of CCCUK
Next day, in the mail, I get a second mailing, and it also is the Dec issue, so got 2 of the same and why from last Dec ?

I thought that Mark`s various articles in latest Vette News were interesting , informative and often amusing . I suppose some people will always gripe about something or anything . The club magazine would only amount to about 4 pages without his contributions !!

Well, colour me slow but I didn't put 2 and 2 together to realise "Mark who writes fabulous articles in Vette News" is also "Mark Invetterate":ROFLMAO:

Keep writing the articles - they're very good.

I'll have to have another go at writing one sometime. It'll be some small stuff about working on my C3. Its just nice to write occasionally.

You are most welcome . I have to say I totally agree with your article on the Lamborghini 350 GT . I always thought it was classy looking design even back in the day , less obvious than the Miura and it has matured well with age : a bit like us !! :ROFLMAO:
As Winston used to say , " Keep buggering on " !

I know you'll keep providing great articles Mark thank you and I agree with everything said in this thread so far.

I consider Willie a mate and we've butted heads on a number of occasions over his like for electric cars and also American politics. Willies TDS is on full alert at the moment with Trumps sweeping reforms so I guess he's a bit ruffled up? BUT let's remember, Willie is a volunteer regional rep, long time member, a decent chap and we're all here for the same reasons and that is our passion for cars and especially Corvettes of which Willie has a C7.

Peace
