Importing from the USA

Good news for anybody bringing in anything from the USA, as the £ now buys more greenbacks. OK not much saving on smaller items, but if it’s a car you’re saving quite a bit depending on $ price paid. And of course shipping is also priced in dollars, so your save there as well.
As Tesco says “ every little helps”

I have recently received notifications from 3 of my suppliers that there will be price increases due to new import tariffs imposed by the Trump administration

Only to be expected as quite a lot of reproduction items are produced in china and Mexico, and auto’s and auto parts are a very sore point in the current administrations eyes.
At the end of the day it’s nearly always the end user who suffers as they are last in the chain.

It does make you wonder tho are the price increases just a way of boosting the company’s profits. ? Tariffs are all in the news, customers will sort of expect them, so why not increase the products a little.

Which makes it odd when the USA company listing the items for sale have the operating procedure where they don't hold any stock, but just order it from their China / Mexico suppliers and have it sent directly to us here in the UK. Which means the item never went to the USA, so why do we get penalised with the high import tariffs into the USA?

How does that work??? Because your exporting from USA, your paying UK import tariffs, not USA. Nothing to do with the Trump administration.

This is not directed at the motor trade but many UK based businesses, typically wholesalers and retailers of products historically are known to 'hike' UK purchase prices of items already stocked (but purchased at pre-increase prices)..........up to the manufacturers latest purchase price. Thereby increasing stock values but potentially improving profitability for actually doing nothing but holding stock.

Trump granted a one-month exemption to 25% tariffs on vehicles and auto parts traded through the North American trade agreement USMCA after speaking with leaders of automakers Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, the White House said Wednesday. Trump then broadened the exemption beyond autos for Mexico on Thursday.

If there are US tariffs on the items, its like an import duty on the items. The US importing purchaser has to pay that, making them more expensive when sold on. The US government keeps/collects the tariffs charged.

Is that the (no tariff) trade agreements Trump signed with Canada and Mexico during his first term as President?

For this month would include whatever the agreement was in the existing North American trade agreement USMCA

Must be a bit of a bind for the corvette centrals, Ecklers etc of this world when prices suddenly increase for whatever as their nice catalogues are suddenly out of date price wise.
Yes, their websites can be updated fairly quickly but their catalogues are still widely used.
I for one quite like looking through them for anything required.
