During an interview with GM Japan executives Yoshiaki Uehara and Satoshi Nakano for the Japanese-language webcg.net, it was learned that the first batch of right-hand drive Z06s to be sold in Japan will all be Black Coupes with an Adrenaline Red interior.
Satoshi Nakano explains that the specifications were narrowed to ensure that production would happen instead of customers trying to order their own cars, as the initial production numbers will be very low.
The Black Coupe with the Red interior will also be paired with the Black aluminum spider wheels and red brake calipers. “The black body, red seat, black wheels, and red calipers make it a combination that arouses the desire to drive,” says Nakano while also pointing out that the Black exterior color is #1 in America.
Additional options for the Japanese spec Z06 include Competition Sport seats, Torch Red seat bets, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. None of the cars will feature the Z07 Performance Package.
As Japan has some of the strictest emission laws on the books, the Z06 will come with the export exhaust system featuring the corner-mounted tips which also comes with the lower rated 636 horsepower due to the gasoline particulate filters the car is fitted with. Nakano says the quad center exhausts “are cool, but they get hot when loading luggage in the trunk. With this car, you can load your golf bag without worrying about it, which is wonderful.”
Japan received only around 300 C8 Corvette Stingrays when they originally began production of the right-hand drive exports, and as the interview suggests, we expect the Z06 exports to be very limited.
No time frame was given for when the export Z06s would arrive in Japan.
Japan floods the USA with their junk but makes it very hard for American nameplates to sell vehicles over there :-(
