A Shark Gray 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe and a Summit White 2023 Camaro 2SS convertible were involved in a weird incident at a Pennsylvania car dealership early Wednesday morning, and all the action was captured on surveillance video.
The incident unfolded beginning about 1:30 a.m. at Morgan Automotive on the 800 block of Lancaster Road/Route 72 in Penn Township, according to authorities.
The first clip opens with a person wearing a black hoodie sneaking up to the Corvette, smashing out the passenger window, and then diving head-first into the car and disappearing inside, apparently bumping the horn slightly upon his entry as he climbed behind the wheel.
In the next clip, the Camaro, which had been parked next to the Z06, is on the street and the Corvette apparently is stuck as it drives across a decorative fence and hedge trying to leave the dealership. Someone then runs up from the left side of the frame and picks up one of the boards knocked down in front of the Z06.
The third clip captures police blue lights flashing at the left edge of the frame as a hooded thief drops the board, runs to the Camaro and gets in the driver’s seat, pulling away. The arrival of the police apparently prevented the theft of the Corvette, however.
Somehow, the crook in the Camaro managed to get away, despite the police car pulling up right behind it at the scene as he ran to the car. A short pursuit did follow on Lancaster Road, but the officer quickly stopped the chase, citing public safety.
Surrounding law enforcement agencies and Pennsylvania State Police then helped with the search. Further investigation found evidence that the suspect in the Camaro and perhaps others had entered Manheim Auto Auction property and surrounding businesses, apparently to steal vehicles.
Now, Northern Lancaster County Regional Police are asking the public for information by dialing 717-733-0965 or Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at 800-322-1913. Tips can also be submitted online.
