A C8 Corvette was among the millions of dollars worth of stolen vehicles recovered after a months-long auto theft investigation mounted by a team of Canadian law enforcement officers.

The black Stingray and 22 other stolen vehicles valued at about $5 million were recovered as a result of Project Titanium, a joint effort co-led by the Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto Police Service, with several other agencies lending a hand, too.

Thanks to their teamwork, eight individuals who were allegedly part of a criminal network involved in violent auto thefts, home invasions, and other non-violent auto thefts are facing 103 charges, including robbery and firearms charges, according to authorities.

Project Titanium began in March and culminated on June 18-19 when search warrants were executed on six vehicles and four locations in Peel Region and Toronto.

Besides the 23 recovered vehicles, police also seized a loaded handgun and ammo, approximately $2,000 CAD, manual break-in and electronic auto theft tools, fraudulent photo identification, and stolen vehicle parts.

OPP Deputy Commissioner Marty Kearns, Investigations and Organized Crime, said: “Vehicle crime is a complex issue, but one thing is simple – our communities deserve to feel safe when they lay their heads down at night.
It is the right of every Ontarian to feel at ease in their home, in their communities, and to feel protected by law enforcement. I would like to thank our partner agencies for the assistance with Project Titanium and TPS for co-leading the PCJTF. The results of these collective efforts demonstrate the importance of collaboration between law enforcement partners across the province.”

Anyone with information about stolen vehicles is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
