Yes, it’s a shame because it’s now something that will probably never be enjoyed as a car, only as a possession. Was probably only enjoyed as a car for its early years of ownership, then its status took over.

A friend had a 1969 L88 that he bought very cheaply in the 80’s, and used it a lot, a daily driver a lot of the time. As it’s value increased it was relegated to the garage and eventually sold when it hit six figures.

Was he running it on pump fuel?

If I remember correctly he did put in some sort of octane booster, but you could also get higher octane gas than what’s about now. 97 I think. I do know it drank fuel like a space ship, you watched the gas gauge go down as you were going along. Made a V12 jag look economical. Bloody noisy as well. Not a pleasant drive.
