Many, many years ago, back in 1953
The Chevrolet Corvette became a reality
A type of warship shared its name
It had a straight six motor called a blue flame
Then a man named Duntov famously said
"This car needs a V8 cylinder head!"
He took it racing and did rather well
And hence the Corvette it began to sell
But then things changed in '63
A second Corvette came to be
Radical styling and split rear glass
Unfortunately though, the split didn't last
In '67 this model gave way
The C3 Vette saw the light of day
Curvy body with chrome front and back
Another fast Vette to chase on the track
The longest lasting Corvette by far
In 1982 they still sold that car
The following year, Corvettes weren't made
What was to become of the Corvette brigade
Fear not because they had plans to make more
One year later we were shown the C4
Angular styling and the fast ZR-1
Could this car be improved upon
The answer is YES, because in '97
Corvette lovers were in V8 heaven
The C5 came out to much applause
Three different bodies, but still only two doors
The ZO6 was the top of the line
A fixed roof coupe, or COOP you may find
Seven years later in 2004
C5's were history, they were no more
Time for a change, the C6 came about
The pop-up lights would no longer POP OUT
The Grand Sport, ZO6 and ZR-1 came
But still they were all Corvettes by name
Alas the C6 was destined to go
When the C7 launched at some motor show
A few more angles, round tail lights omitted
LED's, scoops and spoilers were fitted
This car became the fastest Vette yet
But deep down it was still just a Corvette
Five years later a new Vette appeared
A radical change, 2019 the year
Still a V8, two doors and sporty
But GM had done something quite naughty
The engineers had decided to fiddle
And placed the Vette engine right in the middle
A mid-engined Corvette had been muted before
But those prototypes were part of folklore
The new car is here and its sexy as hell
Only an idiot would think it won't sell
The Corvette name's alive, long may it last
But how many Corvettes will drift into the past
Will it be electric at some point in time
If that's the case, I won't type a rhyme
I hope you enjoy my poem on Vettes
Enjoy all your cars but best not forget
We won't save the planet in our V8's
And most may remain in the United States
Yes they may use more petrol per mile
But don't they give us a bloody good smile
