Last week I was invited by a friend of the elderly owner, to look at this C3 coupe which needs to be sold. The owner has a long term illness and has not been able to drive the car for 7 years. The corvette has been kept under cover in a 'Barn' style carport with a south facing open front. Unfortunately, the breathable cover (purchased in 2015) has rotted but has kept the paintwork in fair condition. However, there were signs of rodents nesting on the inlet manifold which have now been removed. Also, two of the tires are flat and perished and (possibly all four) will need to be changed. With the help of a fellow club member (Ian) we tried to start the C3 using a spare battery. The engine turns but does not fire. We suspect a wire may have been chewed somewhere? We tested sidelights, electric windows and centre console instruments which are all working. None of the dash guage's come on. On a positive note, the engine has been upgraded with a Moroso tuning kit. It has tall valve covers (roller rockers?) headers, Edelbrok inlet manifold with a Weber carb and silicone leads. The interior is in very good condition with no signs of damp. We checked the lower birdcage and found no serious corrosion. There is an extensive history file with receipts showing yearly services and parts replaces when needed.
Clearly, this will be a project for it's new owner which is very 'do-able'. The car would have to be removed on a trailer.
There will be some other hurdles to cross as the owners property is under 'Powers of Attorney' and consent to the sale will have to be approved by this person and the Trustees.
The suggested asking price of 'offers in excess of £10k' will be considered.
